By purchasing firewood from Woodfella you agree and accept to have read and understood this page and have a complete understanding of appropriate firewood care.
We strive to deliver high quality premium firewood to your door, but it’s important you give it the proper care to ensure you get the best from your wood. Ensure firewood is stored appropriately.
Plan where you want us to drop your firewood. We will require enough space for our vehicle and tipping trailer to access. Please ensure there are no overgrown branches that may prevent delivery or scratch our vehicle.
Consider the firewood stack site carefully, as wood will remain in this spot for a long time. Consider accessibility and convenience. Never stack wood against your home as this is an invitation for insects and rodents. It's not recommended to stack firewood in enclosed sheds or internal garages. This may result in mould, odors and possible damaged wall linings.
Avoid direct contact with soil when stacking wood. Placing wooden pallets beneath wood is best. It enables air to flow beneath wood. When making multiple side-by-side stacks, leave 10cm between stacks for airflow. For safety stack stability, never stack firewood more than 1.5m high.
It's a good idea to cover wood with a tarp temporary in inclement weather until you can get it stacked undercover. Position a tarp so it blankets the top of the stack and extends a few centimeters down the sides. Keep the sides mostly exposed for airflow. If you completely cover a wood pile the cover retains moisture that wood absorbs, making seasoned firewood burn like green wood. Stored wood starts to decay after four to five years, and burning ease and efficiency drops.
If you notice white mould on firewood it's generally considered harmless and can appear after rain. The best thing for preventing mould is sun, warmth, and good airflow. If you believe some bits of wood are growing mould, move the pieces out somewhere where they can dry off for a while. Green, partially dried, or rain wet dry firewood all have the potential to grow mould if the moisture is not easily able to escape.
During winter months dry firewood soaks up any moisture or rain and needs a week to dry off in a well ventilated woodshed before burning.
When purchasing firewood you take full responsibility to ensure proper storage to prevent moisture, rain and mould. While we provide thorough drying instructions, there are additional factors out of our control that may prohibit wood from staying in optimum condition, as such we are not liable to provide any refunds or returns on firewood purchases.
Please ensure your woodburner is inspected and serviced yearly to ensure your fire performs efficiently to get the most out of your wood, as well as keeping you safe and warm.
